Jacks Crew
JACKS CREW
Jacks Crew is a turn-based tactical strategy game created in a strict 64x64 pixel resolution for LOWREZJAM 2026.
Assume command of a galactic hazardous cleanup crew. Travel across procedurally generated sectors, contain environmental hazards, decontaminate toxic planetary surfaces, and earn enough credits to pay off your mounting corporate debt before your contract expires!
GAMEPLAY & MECHANICS
1. Sector Map & Planet Selection
First Jump: You land stranded on a randomly assigned planet. Clean the surface to secure your initial credits! Subsequent Jumps:
Inspect available planets (Terran, Volcanic, Radiated, Toxic). Balance their landing costs against their reward multipliers to choose your next target.
2. Surface Operations: Cleaning & Barrier Placement
Once on the planet surface, roll your suit battery dice (`DICE`) to gain Action Points (AP). All cleanup operations are performed on adjacent tiles:
Decontaminate (`CLN`):
Select an adjacent contaminated tile relative to your current active position to clean it.
- Cleaning turns toxic tiles into safe land and collects scrap credits (+10 base, +25 on rich deposits).
- Your active position moves to the newly cleaned tile, allowing you to venture deeper into the grid!
Containment Barriers (`BRR`):
Select an adjacent tile to build a physical containment wall along the border between your current tile and the target tile.
- Barriers 100% block the spread of pollution across that boundary at the end of your turn!
Environmental Phase:
- Unprotected toxic tiles attempt to expand into adjacent clean tiles at the end of each turn, penalizing your gathered scrap resources.
3. Credits & Meta-Progression
- Mission Rewards: Every cleaned tile and gathered resource is converted into credits upon mission completion.
- Permanent Upgrade Shop (`SHOP`): Invest in permanent gear upgrades: Battery Capacity (`BAT`), Frequency Shielding (`SHD`), and Reinforced Barriers (`BAR`).
- Temporary Supply Shop: Every 3 Jumps, a special shop appears before landing, offering one-time consumable boosts (+1 Battery, +5 Resource/Tile, or +2 Barrier Actions) for that specific run!
4. Debt Contracts & Game Over Conditions
- Corporate Debt: You start on Contract Level 1 with 10 Jumps to pay off a target debt of 1,000 Credits.
- Contract Escalation: Fulfilling your debt clears the contract and advances you to the next Contract Level with higher debt targets and extra jumps!
Game Over: If you reach your jump limit without enough credits to cover the target debt, your crew goes bankrupt and it's GAME OVER!
5. TILE TYPES & MAP HAZARDS
The 8x8 planetary grid consists of distinct tile types that directly affect your strategy and resource collection:
Normal Contaminated Tile (Dark Gray): Standard polluted surface. Cleaning this tile yields +10 Scrap Credits.
Rich Deposit Tile (Gold): Rare high-value resource node. Cleaning this tile yields +25 Scrap Credits.
Cleaned Tile (Green / Bright Green): Safe, decontaminated land. You can freely navigate through cleaned tiles to reach new zones.
Unprotected Contaminated Tile: Active hazard that will attempt to re-contaminate adjacent clean tiles at the end of each turn unless blocked by a barrier!
CONTROLS
- Left Mouse Click: Select planets, click UI buttons, choose active tiles, decontaminate adjacent cells, and place barriers.
- Re-click Active Action Button (`CLN`/`BARR`): Instantly end your current turn to trigger the environmental phase and prepare for a new dice roll.
